Canvas printing
Look for cotton or poly-cotton artist canvas printed with pigment ink and finished with a protective varnish. Stretcher bars come in standard (about 18–20mm) or gallery-wrap depth (about 38–45mm), where the image wraps around the edges and the canvas can hang without a frame. For a finished look, add a floater frame. Keep canvas out of direct sunlight and bathrooms.
Metal printing
High-end metal prints use dye-sublimation: the image is printed onto transfer paper and fused into a coated aluminium panel under heat and pressure (ChromaLuxe is the best-known panel). Colour is intensely saturated and the surface wipes clean, which makes metal ideal for humid rooms and coastal homes. Cheaper “metal” prints are UV-printed onto aluminium composite (Dibond) — still durable but less luminous.
Acrylic face-mounting
The print — usually a photographic or giclée print — is bonded face-down to a clear acrylic sheet with optically clear adhesive, then backed with Dibond and a hanging subframe. The acrylic adds depth and makes colours pop. It scratches more easily than glass, so dust with a microfibre cloth only.
UV printing
UV flatbed printers cure ink instantly with ultraviolet light, so they can print directly onto wood, glass, acrylic, aluminium, leather and even mirrors. Layers of white and varnish can build raised texture — useful for mimicking brushstrokes or creating tactile signage and wall décor.
